After fitting new light seals to my Minolta X700 film camera a trip out was needed to see if I had managed to cure the light leak or if there was a more serious problem with the shutter. So now having the luxury of a car I took a drive out to one of my favourite country parks “Bradgate Park” I really needed the exercise too, felt like my legs were seizing up, been way too hot for walking.
Bright Bracken
There are odd patches of lighter coloured Bracken, and with a Red filter on the front of the lens this darkens the Greens and makes the lighter colours pop.
Double Oak
Protected #1
Cones
Used the 35-70mm zoom for this with an Orange filter.
Protected #2
Not So Bright Bracken
No Way
Ruins Of Lady Jane Grey’s House (the nine day queen)
It is said to be haunted !!!!
I used Kodak TriX 400 for these shots and developed the film in Ilford ID11 1+1, still got loads of specks on the film, I can only think its the wetting agent I use in the final rinse, it’s quite a few years old, a new bottle is on order.
Well it seems the new light seals have sorted the flare problem, so glad it wasn’t the shutter.
wow how fun to take photos with regular film and then develop yourself – 😉
i like the not so bright bracken
and so much here 😊
(glad it was not the shutter too)

Thank you 🙂 I’ve always liked traditional film photography but got sidetracked by digital for a few years. Really enjoying getting back into it, and still learning.

after seeing your photos i sort of wish i bought this camera set in 2016 – i was in kansas city and at this store downtown they had a camera set –
think it was canon – had two
lenses – i unused 35 m film!
it was short heavy – the actual camera –
and cheap! well i hope someone got it who values it – i likely would not have used it –

Film cameras have really gone up in price lately, I was lucky and bought most of mine a few years ago. Now I’m retired 😮 they give me an incentive to get out and about and get some exercise.

yeah – this “set” was a steal
of a deal
and i pondered it for a good hour (walked and browsed) but decided it was not the right time and i can’t (don’t want to) store many more things for “later”
but glad
you have time to explore and indulge (and share)
and i did not know the prices have gone up

Shame you didn’t get it, I find film slows me down and I think a bit more about each shot (that’s the theory) It also keeps me out of pubs and bars 😁

Nice shots and cool experience with giving a second life to the camera!

I was really worried it was the shutter, but the light seals were disintegrating and luckily it was this causing the problem. I don’t know why but I like using the Minolta even though it’s nothing special.

It’s comfortable to use? Good viewfinder or lots of shutter speeds?

I guess for me it’s comfortable to use and the viewfinder is bright, much needed with my ageing eyesight 🤓

Bright viewfinder is always a good thing!

I should say that you seem to have solved the light-leak problem! These images are GORGEOUS! In fact, Protected #2 is so beautiful that I would buy a print. Lovely, lovely work.

Thank you Heide, really appreciated. I’m glad I managed to sort the light leaks out, it’s a camera I like using. Hopefully now I have a car I hope to be able to visit some interesting places, a trip to the seaside seems is high on the list.
