Thursday Doors – 17-08-17

Here’s my contribution to the excellent  “Thursday Doors” blog over at Norm 2.0

Met up with my photowalk buddies this Tuesday, and the weather was really good for once. We walked over to the St Margaret’s area of the city and the parish church.

A Tucked Away Side Door

I have always admired the architecture of this church but it wasn’t until I read up about it’s history (on Wikipedia – Click Through) how far back it dates, parts of it to the 12th and 13th century. I would like to have a look at the interior sometime.

Just around the corner is this lovely old factory building, slowly declining into disrepair.

It has some art deco features, but I can’t find any historical information about the building. A visit to the reference library is needed.

Not strictly a door in the true sense, but I like the colours.

Thursday Doors

Managed a short visit to Oakham in Rutland this week, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutland) the weather forecast was reasonable and it’s only two stops down the line from my hometown. It’s been a long time since I visited Oakham for sightseeing, used to go there 2 or 3 times a month for business when I still worked. It’s a lovely old market town and most importantly has a fine selection of doors for my contribution to the excellent Norm 2.0 “Thursday Doors” Blog.

Oakham Cemetery

You can see the cemetery from the railway as you enter Oakham, it looked interesting so went straight there from the station. I know it’s not really a door but it’s a lovely building and entrance way. The lodge is Grade-II listed.

There are some lovely cottages along the side streets, a lot of them are constructed from the local stone and many have thatched roofs. Really enjoyed the visit to Oakham.

Thursday Doors

09-02-2017

Been trying (with limited success) to get some door theme’s together for future “Thursday Doors” postings over at the Norm 2.0  blog, do go and check it out. It’s been difficult to get any decent images because the weather has been dull and grey in my part of the UK.

Have You Made Your Peace it says on one of the signs

Fortunately Monday of this week was bright and sunny and I managed to get this unusual one on a visit to the area I grew up in. Then I filled up my memory card and had forgotten to put a spare in the bag.

Great Live Music Pub

It’s been a while since I’ve been to this pub, they have great music nights and excellent beer. Getting there is no problem, it’s getting back that’s difficult !

This is a lovely old bank building in the centre of Leicester and it has recently been restored and turned into a steak house.

Great carvings either side of the door.

Thursday Doors – Ecclesiastical Doors

I had to dig into my archives to find some doors to post on “Thursday Doors” over at the excellent Norm 2.0 blog. The weather and light have been dull and grey here in Leicester.

Tall & Slim

You would need to be tall & slim to fit through this door at All Saints Church, Braunston, Rutland. This photo was taken on my Olympus 35DC film camera.

If you look carefully at the two doors above, letters and numbers have been chalked on them, I have no idea what if anything they refer to. These were taken on 10th Jan this year one of the few bright days we have had.

Chartres Cathedral is a magnificent building, and Chartres was a great overnight stop on my way back from my friends in Aquitaine.

*Sorry about the large size of some of these images, but it was before I got the sizing right for WordPress posts.
