What a dull day today

15/11/16

Needed to escape the chaos of the house, what with the decorating and a general clear out, can’t believe the amount of stuff I’ve accumulated !!!!

The weather wasn’t very promising, dull and flat, and it was a bit muggy, but I put the Sigma DP1 in the bag, not really the best camera for these conditions as it doesn’t perform all that well above 400asa.

Park Keepers Store

I have a thing about doors, I spotted this a few weeks ago on a visit to a city park.

I wonder what they keep in that store.

Friday trip to town

23-09-2016

Actually took the bus to town this time so I could walk out to an area I haven’t visited for years, Leicester’s Abbey Park.

Abbey of St Mary of the Meadows
sdim2210_1_2-edit
According to the information board the Abbey was founded in about 1143 and closed in 1538 by Henry v111 (who else !) so it lasted for nearly 400 years.

I also took along a film camera with me, hopefully should have processed the film by tomorrow (Sunday).

(Hot) Walk to Town

Apparently it was the hottest September day in some parts of the UK since 1911, it certainly felt like it on my walk. I wanted to see how the building work on the canal was coming on.

Last few from Latvia visit

I was hoping to post some images from my replacement Olympus OM40 that I bought a couple of months ago, I scanned the negs and when I opened them in Photoshop there were dust specs all over them. I am a man of patience but… so I will re-scan them later in the week.

So here are the last images from my Latvia visit.

Wild flowers at the family cemetery.

Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum

Just on the edge of Riga is the Ethnographic Museum, I first visited the site in 1993, at that time it was just getting started so it was really good to go back and see how it has come along. They have lots of exhibitions, festivals, and craft fairs throughout the year, not to mention an excellent shop/cafe that sells lovely food and Latvian beer.

Here are a few photographs from the museum site, as usual could have spent a lot longer looking around.

While we were waiting for my relatives at the end of our visit this lovely affectionate cat came and sat by us demanding lots of fuss, a great way to end our day.

Yesterday’s walk to town

Made a quick trip into town for the usual cat food top up and a little bit of food for me. The weather was really good although the lighting was quite harsh so I was shooting mainly in HDR mode on the Sigma DP1.

Busy busy
SDIM2054_5_6-Edit
I used to work here in the late 1980’s when it was the council headquarters, the building started falling apart so they demolished it last year. There was lots of movement in the scene the 3 shot HDR captured a bit of it.

No thanks

Just hanging out with friends !

Saw this guy and his friend at the “Simon Says” festival Leicester at the weekend and it made me smile. I never take a camera to the festival because there is a very good beer tent selling lots of real ales and ciders, and I’m always worried that I’ll lose my camera or sit on it after sampling a few glasses ! My phone has quite a good camera and can shoot in Raw format, this image is small crop from the centre of the frame.
