MODS

10-05-19

Met the PhotoBuddies in town yesterday, not for a PhotoWalk (the weather has been pretty dismal over the last week) but to have a look at the MODS exhibition at the New Walk Museum. A bit of nostalgia for the old folks.

There wasn’t much light so I had to use 1600asa on the Olympus EPL1, being an older digital camera it does introduce a bit of noise to the images.

Fashion

I was still at school when the MOD scene hit, I had various pairs of hipster trousers which looked great, but were made from a wool blend of material, I can’t wear wool next to my skin, it makes me itch, a bit like prickly heat, but I put up with it just to look cool !

I loved this style of boot.

Scooters

Apart from the clothes, and music, scooters were the main statement of MOD culture. After borrowing friends scooters I decided they were not for me, felt far too unsafe on the road, so I bought a motor bike and changed over to be a rocker. The Beatle boots looked great with bell bottom jeans.

Never went this far, just the bell bottom jeans, a leather jacket, T Shirt, and white silk scarf.

Pinball

Used to go to a bikers cafe to play the pinball machines, very similar to this one.

Autochanger

Someone gave me one of these a few years ago, I would love to get it it restored to play the old 45’s I’ve got from the 1960’s.

Il Rondo
_5090156-Edit
After seeing the Easy Rider film in 1969 I decided the Hippie life was for me, so fickle. The Il Rondo was a music venue in the town centre, saw some great bands there, Genesis, King Crimson, Barclay James Harvest, Jethro Tull, and Caravan to name just a few. The building is still standing having gone through many reincarnations, mainly restaurants.

Really enjoyed the exhibition, and found I knew some of the contributors.

Hermit Impersonation,

06-02-19

and Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine House.

I’ve been doing a very passable hermit impersonation over the last couple of weeks, the weather has been pretty bad for photography. The forecast for today was quite good so last night I got a couple of film cameras loaded up and set the alarm for 7 am. The best laid plans ! at 3 am there were loud cat fight noises emanating from downstairs, I got up just in time to see Fleur seeing off a cat through the cat door, so many semi feral cats around here, back to bed and eventually sleep. At 5 am someone was knocking on the front door, thinking it was a neighbour in trouble I got up again and opened the door, there was a young man that resembled (without my glasses on) a triangle (base upper most) with a football on top, “can I use your toilet” Me calmly, “no it’s the middle of the night and I’m half asleep” door shut. Very weird, possibly checking to see if anyone was at home. I managed to get up at 7.30am and set off to Dams Spinney the place I visited a couple of weeks ago with some friends.

Been listening to lots of music over the last couple of weeks, my tastes seem to be getting more eclectic, Frank Zappa, Electronic, Madonna, Robben Ford, and Robbie Robertson to name a few.

Love that paw.

The walk in Dams Spinney was lovely, there were early signs of spring arriving and I managed to shoot a roll of film and finish off a roll of homemade Redscale. On the way back this field was full of ponies, what a pleasant surprise.

There were more coming over the hill and a young foal was thoroughly enjoying itself galloping around the others.

What a great end to the walk, according to my phone app it was 5 miles, I needed it, I could feel myself slowly seizing up.

3 Film Cameras #1

14-04-18

Over the last few weeks I’ve been shooting some film on the few bright days we have had.

The 3 beasties, they are sitting on an album by a great band called “Snowapple” (click the Link to have a listen) I saw them a few years ago when they were the support for the brilliant “Handsome Family” and was blown away by their performance.

Samsung AF Slim
I bought this camera in 2002 to take on my first road trip to France. I wanted a camera I could easily carry around when I didn’t feel like lugging an SLR. Thought It could do with another outing.

Click on the images for a larger view.

The Samsung worked well after it’s long slumber, but I didn’t quite gel with it. It’s great to slip in a pocket and has a macro function, I’ll have to give it another try.

Early Evening Music

25-02-18

Just a quick post. My friend texted me to say his band was playing at a local music pub. I haven’t been out to see live music for a while, so braving the cold weather I ventured out. It was a great evening, lot’s of Texan style music sprinkled with a bit blues and rock, and three pints of real ale !

I took this image with my mobile. Really must get some Ilford Delta 3200 or the new Kodak 3200 when it’s available and take some film shots of the band.

In the Land of Grey and Pink

Went for a walk to the city this morning but took a film camera with me, still a few shots to go before I can take the film in for processing. Been in a bit of a nostalgic/reminiscing mood this week, it was my birthday on the 19th, the Beatles wrote a song about my age, no not “Help” although that would be entirely appropriate. So this afternoon I decided to play a bit of vinyl, one of my favourite albums, Caravan – In the Land of Grey and Pink. I saw them live in 1970 and bought this album when it was released in 1971. Gentle English prog rock is probably the best way to describe it, with some great keyboard and bass playing.

That turntable needs a dusting !

Hope this link works.

And to make it even better my cat Mimi came and lay on my lap, of course with vinyl she only had a short stay as I had to turn the record over.

As near to Grey and pink as I can make it.
