Quick Trip To Town

The weather is good in my part of the UK, the previous two days were awful, dull and heavy rain. Before venturing to the supermarket (cat food !!!) I visited a part of town today that I haven’t really walked around before, and found some promising photo locations.

Glass bricks again (and shadows), I can’t resist

I just like this
I think it must be the corrugated metal and the bleakness.

Todays Walk #1

It was a lovely morning this morning, it’s raining windy and cold now ! Decided to take a slightly different route to the city today to see if I could get inspired. So here are a few photos from on the way.

Sub Station
I do like a good Electricity Sub Station

Sun,Hail, Snow and a new Loo seat

I set out for town this morning in lovely sunshine, although it was a bit chilly. My main aim was to purchase a new loo seat as the old one had broken and could be quite painful if you caught it wrong !!!! Wasn’t in a photographic mood but a few things caught my eye.

New Walk SDIM1332-Edit
For a large part of my walk into the city I follow this route along New Walk, it’s traffic free and a very pleasant way to get to the city. I only found out a few years ago that it follows the path of an old Roman road.

A small space for wildlife SDIM1333-Edit
There are a few green areas along New Walk that are left for wildlife and plants.

My Favourite Tree (again) SDIM1335-Edit
This lovely Horse Chestnut Tree resides at the side of the New Walk museum in a small green area. The leaves have really come on over the last week.

Well I got my loo seat and as I was walking to the bus stop it started to snow, when I got off the bus it was hailing.

All photo’s taken with my Sigma DP1.

Walk (slowly) to the town

Took a slow walk to town this morning, slow because I am still aching a bit from yesterday’s bicycle ride !!!!  There was a continental street market on in the centre, not quite the same as the lovely markets in France but a nice surprise. I still can’t overcome my shyness towards street photography so all photo’s were taken from the hip, some at alarming angles, but easily corrected in Lightroom.

What really caught my eye were the couple at the Newspaper stand. I cropped in on the next image.

Husband & Wife or Brother & Sister ?

Thicker undershorts required !

Haven’t been feeling very fit of late, even though I walk into the city every other day. So last weekend I cleaned and oiled my mountain bike, it’s been over a year since I last took it out for a spin. The weather this morning was great, so after wearing myself out pumping up the tyres !!! there was no going back. Armed with a small banana, a bottle of juice, and my Sigma DP1 camera I set off. Fortunately I live next to a Sustrans cycle route that takes you out into the countryside on quiet roads. It’s quite a hilly route, not the steep kind, but more of the long slog kind. Here are a few photos along the way.

You can see by the windsock I was riding into a gentle headwind, good for muscle toning I kept telling myself.

St John the Baptist Church, Kings Norton
I was kindly given a guided tour of the church which was very interesting. It was built in 1775 on the site of an earlier church, and originally had a 156 ft spire, but it was destroyed by lightning in 1850.

Water trough in the church wall SDIM1283_4_5-Edit
Apparently it’s Grade 2 listed and due for restoration. The trough is fed from a water tank in the church.

It was only 12 miles (19 Km) but I really enjoyed it. Although it brought home to me just how unfit I am at the moment. I really need to buy some undershorts with much thicker padding, sitting down is a delicate operation at the moment !!!!!!

Another like of mine

What a difference in the weather from Wednesday, it’s grey, cooler, and raining off and on. So just a quick walk to a local shopping area today. Apart from Doors, Peeling Paint and Chimney Pots to name a few one of my other favourite subjects are Garages. Had to crank the Sigma DP1 up to 400 asa for this one because it was so dull.
