Thursday Doors

23-06-22

Haven’t been out photographing much lately, and my Laptop has broken. So it’s the old desktop PC for this post, which took absolutely ages to update. This door is one of my favourites, I have printed a copy of it on a lovely textured paper and put it in a frame.

To see some Doors from around the world check out Dan Antions excellent “Thursday Doors” blog

Taken in 2007 in Salies De Bearn, Aquitaine, France, with a Nikon F601 on Kodak Elitechrome 200 slide film.

To When ……

I thought coloured graduated filters were the thing.

Took this in 1989 on Agfa slide film, (the date was imprinted on the slide mount) on my Jenaflex AM1. I have been having a bit of a sort out of my photo bits and pieces and found a stack of coloured grads, might actually give them another go !

Places I’ll Never Forget #8

From my first visit to the USA in 1992 ! All the images were shot on Kodachrome (of course) with an Olympus OM2n and Zuiko 24mm lens.

Fantastic rock formations and a menacing sky, what more could I want.

After walking up a trail to the top of the rocks behind the first image, this was the lovely view. It really reminded me of cowboy country.

Petrified Forest National Park AZ

The landscape was almost lunar.

Some of the colours of the petrified wood were so vivid.

I would love to one day go and revisit some of these places, but the £ needs to gain a bit of value before that happens.

Yosemite

I visited Yosemite in July 1993 on a road trip to California. I asked to upgrade the hire car from a Subaru 1.6 to a 2 litre but all they had was a Chrysler Eagle, a 3.4 Litre V6 I think. Well that was fine by me, it had a great stereo and plenty of power.

What surprised me was the amount of snow still around in mid July, a spectacular sight, in some parts it was 14 feet high.

What surprised me even more was altitude sickness, I had a job to get out of the car. It doesn’t take long in a car to reach some serious altitude on the Tioga Pass. Starting from the Lee Vining entrance which is 6,000 ft above sea level to 9000 ft at the top of the pass.

The scenery was beautiful, with alpine meadows contrasting with really rugged terrain.

*Anybody Know where this is ?

I have forgotten where this is !!! It was in the same slide box as the above images, my best guess is the start of the Tioga Pass, or Mono Lake vista point on US-395.

Box of Slides

Spent the day indoors again today, the weather has not been good for photography. So with all good intentions I thought I would make a list of the stuff needed to reinstate the spare bedroom back into a darkroom. Of course I got distracted ! One of the distractions was a box of slides, I couldn’t resist scanning a few of them.

This image brought back memories, I think it was about 1989 when I took this photo, testing out a Carl Zeiss Jena 35-135mm Lens, quite a good lens optically but not that good mechanically.

These were taken around 1990 on 3M  Scotch 1000 asa slide film made by Ferrania, lovely and grainy which give them an old world feel, though I suppose they are pretty old now anyway.
