The weather here in the UK has not been very good over the last week, today it’s -3C / 27F, grey and snowing with a 23mph wind blowing, so I’m staying indoors with the cats. I have had to raid my Doors Archive folder for this “Thursday Doors” post over at the excellent Norm 2.0 blog, do check it out.

Thursday Doors

It’s been ages since I contributed to the “Thursday Doors” blog over at Norm 2.0 . I haven’t been on any door forays recently having taken photo’s of all the interesting doors in the city !!! or so I thought. While I was out on a photowalk with the photobuddies last week we discovered an interesting building tucked away on a backstreet in between modern high rise developments.

St Patrick’s Church & School – Royal East Street

One of the photobuddies found some interesting information on the history of the school.
It seems the school and attached church were in use from the mid 1800’s to the 1930’s The recess to the right of the door apparently held a statue of St Patrick. I hope the building is restored and put to good use, too many lovely buildings have been demolished around the town.

The bright reflections were coming from the windows of a modern office block. 

Looks like I need to investigate some more of the back streets in the city and see what I can find.

Met up with my photowalk buddies this morning, the weather was good and we headed off to a part of town that I wouldn’t go to on my own.

There’s A Door There Somewhere 

Out of the corner of my eye I noticed someone pointing a camera at me while I was taking this, it was someone I knew but hadn’t seen for ages, he was trying out his new Fuji XT2.

According to my buddy who knows a bit about the history of this forlorn little house, it’s the last example of a 1up 1down in the city. Of course they want to demolish it to extend a car park !!!!!!!!

There’s an interesting brick relief on the building and an old painted sign, must get down to the reference library and try to find the history of some of the factories. All in all a good day, and according to my phone app I walked 6.43 miles.

Met up with my photowalk buddies this Tuesday, and the weather was really good for once. We walked over to the St Margaret’s area of the city and the parish church.

A Tucked Away Side Door

I have always admired the architecture of this church but it wasn’t until I read up about it’s history (on Wikipedia – Click Through) how far back it dates, parts of it to the 12th and 13th century. I would like to have a look at the interior sometime.

Just around the corner is this lovely old factory building, slowly declining into disrepair.

It has some art deco features, but I can’t find any historical information about the building. A visit to the reference library is needed.

Met up with my PhotoWalk buddies in town, the weather was really unpredictable as it has been for most of the last few weeks, windy, rain, and a bit of sunshine.

This building is empty, but it’s a good looking building. I hope they don’t demolish it and replace it with some bland corporate style apartment block. There’s something written on the second step down, but I can’t quite make it all out.

One Of My Favourite Factory Doors

This is the door to a former hosiery factory of S D Strettons and Sons Limited, fortunately it’s been Grade II listed. The company I used to work for had part of this building as their Personal Finance centre.
